Acupuncture can help to relieve symptoms of headaches and migraines and decrease the frequency of symptom re-occurrence. Many people suffer from chronic headaches and migraines. It is not uncommon to experience symptoms of pain and discomfort from tension headaches, sinus headaches or migraines that can increase in intensity with changes in barometric pressure, temperature, or with light sensitivity.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine these patterns are considered blockages in the flow of energy within the body and the rising of heat (yang) clouding the mind. Acupuncture helps to re-establish the balance between Yin and Yang (hot and cold) and clear these blockages. It has been known to help regulate serotonin and other neurotransmitters in the body which helps reduce the symptoms. As well, acupuncture can help alleviate tension in the muscles of the shoulders, neck and jaw to decrease pain. With the change in seasons acupuncture could help with keeping the symptoms of headaches and migraines under control.
