Career Counselling
Lynn DaviesM Ed, Counsellor
Do you long for a career that is personally meaningful? Career counselling can help you clarify what is important to you, expand your possibilities, and move you in new directions.
Often people come to career counselling to focus on a career change related to job loss, injury, illness, or an unsatisfactory career choice. If you are thinking of a change, career counselling can help you look at your options from a fresh perspective. Career counselling is an opportunity for you to focus on who you are and what unique skills, talents, interests and abilities you would enjoy putting to use. It is a time for you to get clear about what would be meaningful to you and how you can enhance your quality of life. What dreams have you put aside? How can you honour what is important to you and bring it into your life?
My mission is to help you create the kind of life you want to live. I work holistically using an array of counselling modalities and assessment tools to tap into your true passion so that you can set inspirational goals and move forward on the path that is right for you.
The following is a list of areas that you may be interested in looking at:
• Considering your skills and preferences - you can complete a number of assessments and creative exercises to discover what motivates and interests you from a work perspective
• Examining your personality – you can gain an accurate perception of yourself and your impact on others
• Evaluating your career to date – you weigh your experience, achievements and personal attributes
• Expanding your career options by brainstorming about various potentially appealing occupations
• Overcoming roadblocks to finding a meaningful direction
• Learning to make tough decisions
• Creating persuasive resumes and cover letters
• Increasing your confidence by developing effective interview skills
• Planning for a successful job-search to land you in the career that you truly desire
• Mapping a timeline for your long-range career/life development
Counselling can also focus on:
• Evaluating and negotiating job offers effectively
• Dealing with issues on the job, such as office politics or a difficult boss
• Learning how to manage stress
• Asking for raises or promotions
• Developing your leadership potential
Enneagam Consultation
How well do you understand your gifts and challenges? As both a certified career counsellor and a certified Enneagram instructor, I offer a unique opportunity for you to evaluate your skills and career preferences in conjunction with the strengths and challenges of your Enneagram style. The Enneagram serves as a powerful tool for understanding ourselves and others in ways that are incredibly helpful in our work lives as well as in our personal lives. The Enneagram is a psychological development system with nine different patterns of thinking, feeling and taking action. Each of the nine Enneagram patterns is based on a filter through which we see the world. Our filter determines what we pay attention to and how we direct our energy. Understanding and appreciating the different ways in which people see and experience the world is fundamental for increasing our emotional intelligence and improving our relationships.
For fifteen years, I have been working with the psychology of the Enneagram as an essential resource for understanding human behavior and motivation. The Enneagram enables us to know ourselves, understand our gifts, and find our way forward with meaning and coherence. I teach the Enneagram through workshops and one-on-one consultation.
